Gerina Stevenson was born to Mexican parentage Rita Stevenson (mother) and Alan Stevenson (father). She is American and comes from a Mexican-American background. The desire to be a sportsperson was born as a kid. Gerina started playing golf at the age of she reached the age of 15. Gerina went to Goddard High School. In high school she won New Mexico's state golf championship. In addition to the sport of volleyball, she played on the state level. She went to the University of Texas in 2003. While in her senior years she was a winner of every tournament she entered. Through her college professional career, she took home her the Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year award and the UTEP Female Athlete of the year.
